WHAT IS FILL DIRT?

Fill dirt is a combination of clay, sand and rocks that have been broken apart. The dirt has few nutrients or fertility capabilities and lacks organic matter. It is ideal for many projects as opposed to topsoil because of its organic nature which is more likely to shift over a period of time. Filler dirt makes for a firmer foundation.

HOW MUCH DOES FILL DIRT COST?

According to www.homeadvisor.com the average cost per cubic yard of fill dirt is $11.00 for the US in 2020. Prices range from $8 to $15 per cubic yard depending on your location and the quality of the fill dirt.

WHAT IS SCREEN FILLED DIRT?

Screened fill dirt removes rocks and gravel greater than 0.75 inches in diameter. It also has few clay clods and has a finer more uniform like consistency. Although more expensive than unscreened dirt, most people consider it worthy to have for their projects.

IS THERE A WAY I SHOULD INSTALL MY DECORATIVE ROCK WHEN I HAVE IT?

We recommend two ways of the installation of the decorative rock. Hire a skilled installation contractor, or you can do it yourself. If you require a referral for a licensed contractor, don’t hesitate to contact us for a referral. If you do, do it yourself, be sure you are prepared with what it entails and if you have the right tools at your disposal.

WHAT IS CONCRETE SAND?

It is a coarse washed sand with larger grains than masonry sand but it goes through a process to ensure there are no pebbles or large rocks present.

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MORTAR AND CONCRETE?

They both have individual properties and cannot be substituted. Mortar is used to hold and bind building materials together and the water to cement ratio is far higher in mortar than in concrete making it a thicker substance. Concrete also contains gravel and/or rock which is of a much thinner consistency than mortar.

WHY USE MULCH?

Mulch offers a wide range of advantages to landscape beds. Mulch conserves the moisture of the soil and plays a role as an erosion control during heavy rains. It helps control weeds by not letting sunlight in, decreases soil temperature, and releases nutrients into the soil when the mulch starts to decompose. Mulch also offers a contrast between the landscape bed and lawn, providing a finer looking edge.

DOES MULCH ENCOURAGE TERMITES TO LIVE BY MY HOME?

Commonly, the heat generated from the compost process will eliminate almost about anything in the mulch pile. Additionally, a thin layer of mulch isn’t a great environment for termites. They like dark, solid and isolated types of environments.
